AI Copilots for Hardware & Electronics Engineering — Sourcing List
- Quilter — Fully automated PCB layout using physics-based reinforcement learning. Fits: early-stage (Series A, backed by Benchmark), tackling the hardest part of board design end-to-end rather than autocomplete; strong technical founder signal (ex-SpaceX).
- Flux (flux.ai) — Browser-based PCB design tool with "Flux Copilot," an LLM assistant that reads schematics and answers design questions. Fits: one of the first true copilot UX plays in EDA; strong community-led growth among hobbyists moving upmarket.
- JITX — Code-driven circuit board design that generates schematics/layouts from high-level specs. Fits: YC alum, Sequoia-backed, "design-as-code" abstraction that pairs naturally with generative AI; used by aerospace/defense teams.
- Circuit Mind — Automated generation of optimized schematics and BoMs from requirements. Fits: London-based seed/Series A company; solves component selection + architecture search, a workflow copilots handle poorly today.
- Celus — AI platform that turns functional block descriptions into schematics, layouts, and BoMs. Fits: Munich-based, Series A/B; traction with European industrial OEMs, a customer base underserved by Silicon Valley EDA startups.
- Diode Computers — AI-assisted circuit board design service/platform automating schematic capture and layout. Fits: YC-backed, very early; positioned as "hire an AI board designer" — an agentic, not tool-based, wedge.
- Astrus — AI for analog/mixed-signal IC layout automation. Fits: YC-backed, pre-Series A; analog layout is famously artisanal and talent-constrained — high pain, low competition.
- AllSpice — "GitHub for hardware" — version control and review for electrical engineering, adding AI-driven design review. Fits: seed/Series A; owns the collaboration layer where copilot review agents naturally live.
- SnapMagic (formerly SnapEDA) — Component data platform (symbols, footprints, 3D models) now shipping an AI copilot for part selection and design. Fits: bootstrapped-to-funded with massive existing engineer user base — distribution advantage for copilot features.
- Cofactr — AI-assisted electronics supply chain and BoM intelligence for hardware teams. Fits: seed/Series A (Bain Capital Ventures); the "copilot" for the procurement half of the EE workflow, adjacent and complementary to design tools.

White-Space Gaps
- Verification & bring-up copilots. Nearly all activity clusters on design generation (schematic/layout). Almost no one addresses debug, board bring-up, test plan generation, or failure analysis — where senior EEs actually spend the most time and where lab data (scope traces, test logs) is an untapped training corpus.
- Harness, cabling, and electromechanical integration. Wire harness design, connector selection, and ECAD-MCAD co-design are enormous cost centers in automotive/aerospace, still done in legacy tools (or Excel), with essentially zero AI-native entrants — a wedge into much larger systems-engineering budgets than PCB tooling.
