Sourcing List: AI-Native Legal Ops for In-House Counsel (Seed)
Caveat: a few of these have raised beyond seed since I last had reliable data—flagged where relevant. All are real companies.
- Ivo (formerly Latch) — AI contract review that redlines against a company's playbook inside Word. Fits: purpose-built for in-house teams (not firms); raised early rounds from Uncork/GTMfund; strong design-partner logos early. May now be Series A—verify.
- Wordsmith AI — "AI legal assistant" that lets in-house teams deploy AI agents for business-user legal queries (NDAs, DPAs, policy questions). Fits: Edinburgh-based, founded 2023 by ex-Travelperk legal leadership—rare founder-market fit; seed from Index.
- Streamline AI — Legal front-door/intake and workflow triage for in-house teams, now layering AI routing. Fits: founded by a former in-house counsel (Kathy Zhu); seed-stage; attacks the unglamorous intake problem incumbents ignore.
- Flank (formerly rhome) — Berlin startup deploying autonomous "AI legal counsel" agents that answer contract and compliance questions directly to business teams, offloading in-house lawyers. Fits: European seed, agentic (not copilot) positioning.
- Screens (by TermScout) — AI contract review against community-built and custom standards ("screens"). Fits: founded by Otto Hanson; early-stage spinout motion; interesting network-effects wedge via shared playbooks.
- Fides — Munich-based platform automating corporate governance/entity management (board resolutions, approvals) with AI, sold to GCs and legal ops. Fits: seed-funded; governance is an underserved wedge vs. crowded CLM.
- LegalFly — Ghent-based AI legal copilot with anonymization layer for privacy-sensitive in-house work. Fits: founded 2023 by ex-Tinder product team; seed from Notion Capital; privacy-first angle resonates with EU GCs.
- Maigon — Stockholm-based AI review for specific contract types (DPAs, NDAs, privacy policies) with compliance scoring. Fits: bootstrapped/early; narrow contract-type specialization is a defensible seed wedge.
- Definely — London startup for drafting/reviewing legal documents in Word (context surfacing, defined-term navigation), increasingly AI-driven. Fits: sells into in-house as well as firms; was seed/Series A boundary—verify current stage.
- Josef — Australian no-code legal automation (and Josef Q, AI-powered self-serve legal Q&A from policy docs) for in-house teams. Fits: still early-stage; Josef Q is a genuinely AI-native pivot targeting GC self-service.

White-space gaps noticed
- Post-signature obligation management. Nearly everyone crowds pre-signature review/redlining. Almost no seed company is AI-native on extracting and operationalizing obligations, renewals, and commitments after signature and pushing them to the business owners—arguably where in-house pain (and quantifiable savings) is largest.
- Legal spend + outside-counsel management with AI. E-billing incumbents (Legal Tracker, Brightflag) are aging; there's little seed-stage activity applying LLMs to invoice review, matter budgeting, and firm benchmarking—an area with a hard-dollar ROI story that GCs can approve without CFO friction.
